The study of music theory plays an integral role in the development of a well-rounded musician. Students who study music theory learn their pieces more quickly, become better sight readers, improve their memorization skills and succeed in improvising and composing music.
Furthermore, students who take their Royal Conservatory of Music exams in any instrument are required to take a theory component in order to obtain their certificates starting at the Grade six level. These certificates are worth high school credits in the Alberta education system. Chinook Studio of Music offers both individual and group theory classes to students of all levels.
